Users Guide Phpbbsubmitter - Message board submitter

The main purpose of this software is to automate and increase reliability of posting your messages in forums and message boards based on the most popular bulletin board script phpbb. (see. www.phpbb.com)

Example of use #1

I'm a software developer. i'm registered in about 40-50 message boards and I post information about my software. Phpbbsubmitter software can make this process 99% automatic.

Example of use #2

My friend uses this software for bulk submitting advertisement messages in thousands of message boards. These message boards contain information about his product and website will be indexed by search engines. Finally his website rank would be increased and potential buyers read his submissions.

Targets section

In this section you can compose and manage your target lists. Each target is represented as a link to one forum.

Format:

http://website url/phpbb forum path/viewforum.php?f=FORUM NUMBER

Examples:

http://www.webproworld.com/viewforum.php?f=12

http://www.forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=28

Targets list is represented by the list of targets (see examples above) and authentication information: username and password. Authentication information - username and password you're using to login phpbb forum. Each targets list contains one authentication pair (username and password) and multiple targets. With targets lists you can join targets that have identical authentication information. From the other side you can use targets lists to join according to subjects/interests. The only thing you should keep in mind - for all target lists will be used one authentication information.

In Targets section you can compose your targets lists by entering targets manually (fill "add new target" field at the bottom of form and press "add target" button) and providing authentication information for all these targets (fill "phpbb username" and "phpbb password" field in the right column).

If you want to load previously saved targets list, click "Load Targets List", select the list you want to open in opened form and click "Open". You can always see the name aof the currently opened targets list in the top-left corner near "Current Targets List" and the number of targets in this list in the top-right corner near "Total Targets".

Note: Each time you launch the application, the last opened target list will automatically be loaded.

You can also remove targets from current target list. Just put checkboxes near the targets you want to remove and click "Delete Selected" button in the left column. For easy managing of your target list some additional functions have been added:

1. "Select All Targets" - will select all targets in current targets list.

2. "Deselect All Targets" - will clear checkboxes from all targets in current targets list.

3. "Inverse Selection" - will inverse value of checkbox near each target in current target list.

4. "Select Range" - here you can select predefined range of targets (for example from 5 to 28).

If you want to compose new targets list follow these steps:

1. save your current list.

2. select all your current targets and delete them.

3. add new targets.

4. change authentication information.

5. save this targets list under new name.

Note: some new features will be added to this section in the next version.

Profiles section

This section contains information that will be posted to forums. This information is stored in files called Profiles. Each profile consists of:

1. Subject - subject of your message (can be 200 symbols in length maximum).

2. Your website URL - enter any URL here, it will be displayed under your message and be a clickable link (can be 250 symbols in length maximum)

Example: http://www.phpbbsubmitter.com

3. Your logo image URL - enter your URL image here, it will be displayed under your message, and above your website URL. You can make this picture clickable (select checkbox near "Make Picture Clickable") - User will be sent to the URL defined in "Your website URL". Example: http://www.phpbbsubmitter.com/images/logo.gif

4. Text of Message - enter any text you want to post here. You can also use special BBcodes, HTML and Smileys, if target forum allows them. Message can be 2000 symbols in length maximum.

If you want to save current profile, click "Save Profile", enter a name for file and click "Save". By default all profiles are saved to "Profiles" folder, where you can easily find them in the future. In the left column you can see all profiles stored in "Profiles" folder. You can also see the number of profiles stored there by looking above "Current Profile".

You can remove profiles from the "Profiles" folder by putting checkboxes near the profiles you want to remove and click "Delete Selected Profiles" at the bottom of the form. For easy managing of your profiles some additional functions have been added:

1. "Select All Profiles" - will select all profiles in list.

2. "Deselect All Profiles" - will clear the checkboxes from all profiles in the list.

3. "Inverse Selection" - will inverse the value of checkbox near each profile in the list.

Note: some new features will be added to this section in the next version of phpbbsubmitter.

Settings section

In this section you can manage some software and perform some administrative jobs.

You can import a list of URLs to your current targets list and control the format of the file you want to import. (URL should contain one URL per line.)

Example:

http://www.webproworld.com/viewforum.php?f=12

http://www.forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=28

Before improting URL you will have to choose a update method. You have 2 choices:

1. Replace all URL from the current targets list with the URL from the new file.

2. Join URL from current targets list with the URL from the new file.

Just select your option with the radio button. After click "Browse" button, in the new form, find the source file from which you want to import URLs and click "Open". The Path to your file will appear in textbox. Click "Update" button. After that the application will switch to the Targets section where you can see the reuslts of importing.

Another feature you can see in this section is - "Backup Options". This feature allows you to perfor 3 actions:

1. Make backup of all data and settings, data which will be stored in backup includes: all profiles from default location ("Profiles" folder), all targets lists from default location ("Targets" folder), proxies list and configuration file from "Settings" folder, backup data is zipped and placed in "Backups" folder, backup files are named as current date (Example: 12.01.2005.zip), If you want to make backup just select the top radio button and click "Proceed" button.

2. Restore data from backup file: (note: all your current data and settings will be replaced with the ones from backup file.) If you want to restore data and configuration, select the middle radio button and click "Proceed" button (you will be notified that your current data and configuration is about to be replaced), then select the needed archive file in the new opened form and press "Open", after restoration process you will be forced to re-launch the application.

3. Browse folder with backup files.

This section also has a module for working with lists of proxy servers. Submitting your messages through proxy servers will allow you to remain anonymous for forum's administration (it will be hard to ban you), your real IP-address will not be known.

All your current proxies are listed at the bottom of the forum. You can see the number of entries in your list near "Proxies List". Each proxy server entry consists of 4 values: server IP address, server prot, username, and password. Username and password are optional values. You can add proxy server entries to your list manually or import them from a file. To add a new entry manually click "Add New Proxy" button, in the new form enter the required data and click "Add".

Example:

IP address: 195.22.10.63 Port: 3128 Username: John Password: Doe

If you want to import a list of proxies from external files, click "Import List of Proxies" button, select the required file in the new form and click "Open". Note that the source file (from which you want to import proxy entries) must have special format (one entry per line).

Format:

IP_ADDRESS,PORT,USERNAME,PASSWORD

Example:

195.22.155.26.8080,john,doe

66.106.45.134,3128,max,

63.146.79.11,80,,

Please note that the first entry has all the information, the second has not password and third doesn't require authentication.

You can also remove proxy entries from the list. Just put checkboxes near proxies you want to remove and click "Delete Selected Poxies" at the bottom of the form. For easy managing of your proxies some additional functions have been added:

1. "Select All Proxies" - will select all proxies in list.

2. "Deselect All Proxies" - will clear checkboxes from all entries in the list.

3. "Inverse Selection" - will inverse value of checkbox near each proxy in the list.

Another useful function of this section is software update.

You can check whether new versionof software has been released. Just click "Check" button and wait for server response. You can check respective checkbox in order to download and automatically install software. Just check it before clicking "Check" button.

Crawler section

The Built-in crawler was made for helping you to check forum websites for dead forums and find alive ones. Note: this feature doesn't search for new forums, it just checks predefined URL for alive forums. Below you can see examples of use.

Example:

Let's imagine you have forum URL that matches your message subject/interest line. Let this URL be http://www.videohelp.com/forum/ . You want to know what forums on that website are alive. you consider that there are maximum of 100 forums. So you want to check 100 forums from 1 till 100.

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=2

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3

ect.........

http://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=100

Steps required:

1. Fill "Start URL" field with http://www.videohelp.com/forum/

2. Define data in search range fields: "From" and "Till" (set "1" and "100")

3. Click "Start" button (later you can abort operation with "Stop" button)

You can see live statistics in "Progress and Statistics" frame. In "Results" frame you can see results of crawling process. Each URL will have either "Success" or "Failed" status. "Success" URLs you can use as targets for posting, but "Failed" URLs doesn't exsist.

Note: This feature works with phpbb forums only. Please verify that you entered the right URL in "Start URL" field, otherwise you will have wrong results and program may show "Closed gracefully". (close program and re-launch program)

You can find different phpbb forums in search engines. For example try to query google.com or yahoo.com with the phrase "viewforum.php?f="

You will get tons of results you can crawl and submit to. All you need to do is check the desired forum website for live forums.

For easy managing of your results some additional functions have been added:

1. "Select All" - with select all URLs in the result list.

2. "Deselect All" - will clear checkboxes from all URLs in the results list.

3. "Inverse Selection" - will inverse value of checkbox near each URL in the list.

4. "Select Successful Only" - will select URLs with "Success" status only.

At the end you can move selected URLs from the results list to your current targets list. (URLs will be added to your targets list.) Just select the needed URLs and click "Copy Selected to Targets List" (append) button.

Submission section

This section is the "Heart" of the product. Here the main job will be made - submission. Before starting submission you can make some configuration for the next submission. "Flood Interval" is a anti-flood feature of the phpbb forum script. By default it is set to "15" seconds on most servers. It means that you can post only 1 message every 15 seconds. So the submitter should delay between posts other wise some websites will skip your posting. It is recommended to set this value to "15".

The next feature will allow clearing your targets list from "Dead" forums. Some forums may be closed, moved or deleted from its original location. In order not to store such "Dead" URLs in your targets list you can enable this feature. During submission, the application will check forums before posting and will remove non-exsistent URLs from your targets list. In order to enable this feature set the checkbox near "Remove from Targets List Boards with the forum you selected does not exsist error" label. Note: it is not a complete solution against "Dead" URLs because not all forums return default error messages.

You can also add random hash to your message and/or subject. This might help you to avoid some filters (reserved for future versions).

You can make submission through proxy servers from your proxies list. Just enable "Use proxies for this submission session" checkbox and you can hide your real IP address from being banned by forum administration. You can also enable the feature that will check your proxies list for "dead" before submitting. Another good feature is you can switch to new proxies during submission. Proxies will be taken from proxies list and switched every X post. Just set the needed value in the text field. If you want to use single proxy for all posts, just set the value to "0" (the first proxy from the list will be used.)

You can save submission progress to text file for later examination. Just set the checkbox near "Save report to file". Below is an example of a generated report.

Example:

Log Start Time: 16.01.205 16.01 ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Targets list: videohelp.com Profile: joe-smith.pro ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

All reports are stored in "Reports" folder as simple text files. Naming format matches date and time when submission happened.

During submission you can also see live statistics (total progress, how many forums have been posted successfully, how many has failed and how many dead proxies have been found in proxies list.) More detailed statistics can be seen in "Submission results" window (for each URL). You can abort submission at any moment by clicking "Stop" button.
